I've been using Joost a good bit lately and since my monitor is so damn far away to get comfortable I and I have a TV out card I popped the signal out to my ugly ole CRT TV. "Great!" I thought now I can sit on my couch and get comfy and watch some good IPTV (well as close as we can get to IPTV in the states).

But hopping up every little while to change the channels every little bit was completely screwing me mojo. And like many people I don't have an IR Remote, (or an RF either) but I do have an ancient Gravis pad pro. So I dragged out JoyToKey again and built myself a good conf file that looks something like this.

And soon that wasn't enough either, so I added mouse functionality and volume controls by linking the R2 button to another joy file so it goes right back to above when I let go.

But it was too slow so I set the R1 to another joy file as well so that when I held R1 & R2 it goes to this configuration.
Which was considerably faster and made it much easier to go through the 'explore' tab of Joost that was I could browse though channels via genres.

Stupid Patent Filings!

I just caught this artice by wired detailing a new patent filed by Microsoft.
This is getting ridiculous, how can the US Patent office keep giving these out? And no, I'm not referring to the prior art by Apple. I mean in general. Let me clarify, I agree with filing patents with certain ideas and procedures i.e. if Intel develops a new way of squeezing a few more ghz out of an outdated processor model then great, they should file for a patent. But for these elements of UI, it's just insane.

That would be like me filing for a patent detailing a glass:

A open-ended cylinder shaped noncrystalline structure for holding and keeping liquid for consumption

And as I stated in my comment on the article itself, data in a box should belong to Microsoft, Visual voice mail shouldn't belong to Apple, nor should bouncing icons on a dock. A better way of representing data is simply that. And it should be open to whoever wants to use it. This whole thing, it's just dumb.

About the only (major) google ventures I don't use are Orkut, because I'm not a big fan of most Social-Networking services and Picasa, and that's because I've bought a subscription to Flickr, and I honestly think it's better. And when I heard the rumor about Google's new 'Virtual World' I was damn excited. Nobody does free better than google and that's why I've got to tack on another number to my list: Google Shared Stuff

Google Shared Stuff is an absolute god-send for people like me. I should explain that more, I'm also a book-mark-a-holic. At the time of this posting my bookmarks clock-in at 1.34mb. I have 23 sub-folder of unsorted junk that probably never will be sorted.

Shared stuff is pretty much a smart java-script that allows you with a few clicks to 'share' and tag a web page or article with a description, which then get sent to a small page, which is publicly visible for what I like to call cataloging. Then can also be sent to some of the social-networking sites you frequent such as: Facebook, Furl, del.icio.us, Social Poster, Reddit, and Digg.

It seems to be a great service, if you bookmark alot, if not it'll just be another page that sits there and collects dust like ~~google page creator~~ something else I know of.

Remember the good old days of video games? Where you and a friend from school or in the neighborhood would huddle around a 27in CRT? Well now those days are back!

You and a friend or even a complete stranger can share those experiences again through Zbattle.net I know I've talked about emulation before, but I've just rediscovered a completely amazing aspect of it.

Zbattle isn't new, in fact, it's been out nearly as long as Zsnes. With this program you can start a game 'room', similar to a chat, and either tell a friend about it or wait for someone to connect to it. Don't have the game for someone else's room? Zbattle handles that by sending it to them.(These games or roms [also 'romz"] are only permitted if you own the physical cartridge, and sometimes not even then, it's a rather gray area because the carts are no longer for sale in new condition)

There are a few things you need in order for Zbattle to operate.

1. And older version of Zsnes. (1.50)
2. Zbattle.net
3. Port 7845 forwarded (Though you can edit the port in the .ini).
Well, 3 is a little tricky depending on your router make. (If you use a direct connection i.e. directly to a cable modem you can skip 3).

Head to portforward.com to get directions on how to open that port.

Kwonho is a massively multi-player online 3-D fighting game. And it's the first I've ever seen of this genre. It's part of Ijji, a portal for free multi-player games, as well as "mini-games", which really means flash-games.

After signing up for a free account from them, it's a fire fox add-on and a fairly small (255mb) download away from being playable. Well, that's not entirely true, it will then up-date itself, and about 19-20 entries for GameGuard, one of the elements that keeps this game "cheat free". Once all that's taken care of, you'll be greeted with this screen, to choose your server.

There doesn't really seem to be a sizable difference between the servers, except that the 'East' server is faster if you're in the US or Canada. The characters you create will be available on either server, so you're never really locked into one.

Next up, picking a fighting style. The five styles included are; Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, Tai Chi Quan, Ba Ji Quan and Judo, all of which have distinct advantages (and of course disadvantages). After that it's off to building you a snarky character.

Now, pick your chatacter, I know, complicated. (and quit looking at my, match record!)

Next, I'd reccomend a little bit of trainging, it's a great way to get a few valuable as well, as a small amount of coin.

It's about time to play your first match. You can click view 'waiting' games, or you can start your own with 'Quick Start'.

Probably shouldn't have started a match with someone twice my level. Well, play a few matchs earn some coin and now it's time for...

Shopping?!? That's right girls and girls, time to go shopping! And make out character look extra-snarky! It should probablly be mentioned here that the Korean version has alot more▼ than the US.

There's also tons of 'ability' you can buy and then equip for each fighting style.

The service is pretty straight forward.

Then when you get your confirmation e-mail, Pick up the phone, dial the US number it gives you.

And you're off! Just like that, support for other countries▼ is pretty stellar as well.

It seems to be a complete step in the right direction. While most other startups are trying to deliver the calls via web pages, applications, 3g phones, and even small Java apps for simplistic phones. The service is completely stand-alone after you set it up and that's definitely something I can appreciate.

1. I'm not a huge mac fan.

Of the OS that is, the products are phenomenal (aside from the price extremely bloated price).

2. I don't like iTunes.

I don't, In fact I hate it, I'd seriously rather use .... realplayer, that's how much I hate it.

3. I already own a cellphone.

I do, it's a very shitty flip phone, but It works and I'm not going to get in bed with another carrier no matter how cool their phone is.

4. No Skype.

AT&T has already disclosed that it will block ports to Skype and I assume by extension EQO . Skype is my primary form of calling, in fact I have that route to my shitty cell. So it would odiously do me no good for my hefty international talk time. (To my brother and my girl)

5. I already own devices.

I've got a notebook, a Skype phone, a Psp, and a PMP that plays DIVX/XVID so to go from that to to converting my video every time I want to dump it onto that phone is a step in the wrong direction.

6. I like "All you can eat" music.

A la carte music subscription plans are amazing for me, I love music, I don't buy cd's and I'm very flakey on what I like at the time, so paying 15 bux for "Unlimited music mobility, unlimited songs, playlists, radio stations" on my device is a damn godsend, which I surely can't get with iTunes, not in the foreseeable future anyway.

That said, if I didn't have so many devices, the price was 399 and it wasn't a phone (operated exclusively by wi-fi), hell yea I'd consider buying one.

12. Young men provide the genius and muscle by which our society thrives. Look at the Silicone Valley. By in large, it was not old men or women that created the revolution we live. Realize that society steals your contributions, secures it with our intellectual property laws, and then takes credit and the rewards where none is due.

13. Know that few people have your best interests at heart. Your mother does. Your father probably does (if he stuck around). Your siblings are on your side. Everybody else worries about themselves.

14. Don’t be afraid to tell people to “Fuck off” when need be. It is an important skill to acquire. As they say, speak your piece, even if your voice shakes.

15. Acquire empathy, good interpersonal skills, and confidence. Learn to read body language and non-verbal communication. Don’t just concentrate on your vocational or technical skills, or you’ll find your wife fucking somebody else.

16. Keep fit.

17. Don’t speak ill of your wife/girlfriend. Back her up against the world, even if she’s wrong. She should know that you have her back. When she needs your help, give it. She should know that you’ll take her part.

The websites that advertise with attractive women’s photos and claims of loneliness are baloney. All they want is your money and your personal information so that they can market to you. The posts on Craigslist by young “women” seeking NSA sex, and asking for a picture are just a bunch of gay troll pic collectors. This is especially true if the post uses common gay lexicon like “hole” as in “fuck my hole” or seeks “masculine” men, or uses the word cock (except in the context of “Don’t send a cock shot.”) There are women on Craigslist. They are easily recognizable by their 2-5 paragraph postings. Most are in their 30's or older.

25. When you become a man in full, know that people will get in your way. People who are attracted to you will somehow manage to step in your path. Gay guys will give you “the look.” Old people will somehow stumble in front of you at the worst time. Don’t get frustrated. Just step aside and go about your business. Know that these are passive aggressive methods to get you to acknowledge their existence.

26. Don’t gay bash. Don’t mentally or physically abuse people because of who they are, or how they present themselves. It’s none of your business to try to intimidate people into conformity.

28. Don’t be a poser. Avoid being one of those dudes who puts a surfboard on top of their car, but never surfs, or a dude with a powder coated fixed gear bike and a messenger bag, but was never a messenger. Live the life. Earn your bona fides.

29. Don’t believe the crap about the patriarchy. More women are accepted and attend college. More degrees are awarded to women than men. Women outlive men. More men commit suicide. Men are twice as likely to be victims of violence, including murder. If you consider sexual assaults in prisons, twice as many men are raped as women (society thinks prison rape is funny). The streets are littered with homeless men, sprinkled with a few homeless women. Statically, women are happier than men. The myth that girls are being cheated by are educational system is belied by the fact that schools are bastions of femininity, mostly run by and taught by women. Girls outperform boys in school. It is the boys in school getting fucked over, and prescribed ritalin for being boys. Real wages for men are falling, while real wages for women are rising. Just because someone says something enough times, doesn’t make it true. You have nothing to feel guilty about.

30. Remember, 97% of all advice is worthless. Take what you can use, and trash the rest.

Excuse me for it, but I'm damn excited. I heard about this movie about 6 months ago. And, like everyone else, got hyped because it was Frank Miller. I looks to be an amazing take on the infamous Battle of Thermopylae as depicted in "The 300 Spartans" from the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same title. (Here's a slideshow of the comic▼)

As I said it premieres tommorow, expect it to be packed, as it tested nearly 100% positive with men and women (imagine that!), though it hasn't really heralded much acclaim from move critics.

In the realm of on-line radio there are quite a few hit or misses. Some are music "services" like pandora and last.fm. Others are centered around playlists. Normally the latter use links that point to the mp3 being somewhere online, but this mainly is a way to foster piracy. Finetune is the first I've seen that doesn't. I still haven't learned all their connecions to the major music lables. But their collection is extensive. In making a playlist there were only two artists that weren't in their database. Here's what my playlist looks like.

The service centers around playlists that have (at least) 45 songs. And in case you get stuck has an "I'm Lazy" feature that will fill in the rest of your playlist. You can listen to user stations as well, add them to your friends list and leave them comments. It also have a very glassy web 2.0 interface that's damn easy to use and the ability to use it via the wii (pic).

..And it disappears like magic!

Since about 2001 I've been using M.U.G.E.N. Mugen is a customizable 2-D fighting game produced by Elecbyte. But since about 2003 all development has ceased, on the engine side, every other aspect of Mugen has been customized and re-customized. But the thing that's been lacking is more development of the engine to add new features.

But it really seems like the InfinityCat (InfCat) is coming leaps and bounds ahead, I persolanlly haven't tried they're build yet. But I'm damn excited and will keep you posted.

This is a work by Katsushika Hokusai, dating to the 19 century called Beneath the Great Wave off Kanagawa.

Katsushika Hokusai, (1760 — 1849[2]), was an Edo period Japanese artist, painter, printmaker and ukiyo-e maker. Born in Edo (now Tokyo), Hokusai is best-known as author of the woodblock print series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, (c. 1831), which includes the iconic and internationally-recognized print, 'Beneath the Great Wave off Kanagawa.' Hokusai created the ‘Thirty-Six Views’ both as a response to a domestic travel boom and as part of a personal obsession with Mount Fuji [3]. It was this series, specifically ‘The Great Wave’ print and 'Fuji in Clear Weather', that secured Hokusai’s fame both within Japan and overseas. As Lane concludes, “Indeed, if there is one work that made Hokusai’s name, both in Japan and abroad, it must be this monumental print-series...” [4]. While Hokusai’s work prior to this series is certainly important, it was not until this series that he gained broad recognition and left lasting impact on the art world. Ebooks in you pocket!

Everyone has touched on how great eBooks are before but usually it requires one of two things.

Sitting at a PC and reading (which is something most people aren't comfortable doing)
Reading via a PDA (which most people don't have)

Today I'm going to tell you how to bring your text on the go with you with a device that many more people have. The iPod (or PSP).

What you need

Source material
An iPod or PSP
Text to Jpeg files for PSP (Mirrors 1 2 3)(v2.1.1)

Source material is fairly easy to obtain. I personally prefer a .txt version of a book from somewhere like Project Gutenberg (you can use .Lit as well or PDF but that requires a bit more "massaging")

After you have your source (and Txt2Jpeg)

Unzip Txt2Jpg
Click File-> "Open Textfile"
Locate your .txt
Click Edit-> "Easy Config"
Change the output size to "320x240" (for iPods)
Select you output folder and click start

After that all that's left to do is upload it to your iPod through the file structure (not through iTunes)

There are a few ways to "dress up" the image by using backrounds and changing the font size. My favorite of which is using this backround and changing the font to white 10pt Trebuchet MS.

After which you'll be left with an image that looks like this

(On a side note, this method also works on cell phones via the Orb service, and can also be used to keep track of phone numbers and address)

With all the press lately on the iPhone I figured it was time I offered up some alternatives. In other words, I'm not going to walk you though it, if you want details see Engadget's coverage. (Which is top notch)OpenMoko

This is one I just discovered earlier today. It seems to be (according to the press release) an "open source" phone.

Open mobile communications development platform and phones will create explosive growth of mobile applications to rival the diversity and size of the massive ringtone market and foster new income models for carriers.

And it seems to be a really exciting new product, kinda reminiscent of the "greenphone" (which I'll discuss later). This is definately one to watch. [More pictures here]

Greenphone

The Greenphone, is an open source Linux-based phone, that will pretty much do, well whatever you want to develop it to and with specs like the touch-screen, a 312mhz processor, GSM, Bluetooth, and a 1.3 megapixel camera, that could be an awful lot.

Already GAIM, has stated developing for it (Well Qtopia rather). And soon to be countless others. But at the moment it's more for developers and very early adopters, especially since there is no real carrier support, and I'd be surprised if there ever was. It also support a hefty price tag for features that can be found in a standard 60$ cell, it clocks in at $695 USD.

There's also bound to be a decent buzz over it soon as it was at CES January 8th, for a hands-on demo.

Windows Mobile Devices

Now with all this talk about smart phones (as well as PDA's) I'd be remiss if I didn't at least mention Windows Mobile 2003 (Pocket PC 5) devices. (Pictured above is the Motorola Q)

Windows mobile is a fairly robust platform who's main benefit at the moment is compatibility, no one offers more (except maybe Palm) and with the slew of apps and the phones being shoved down our throats at the moment it's pretty hard to ignore (blackjack anyone?). It's definately a viable option, it might not be a pretty as the iPhone but it is indefinably usable. (Skype!)

And with the Opera browser, and messenger programs available for it, it's a pleasant experience.

Now out of all the phones I've mentioned, WM is th only thing really available for consumer use (for now anyway). It has all the options you're familiar with if you're and XP user. Plus if you can grab one along with a 3g service, it's a damn nice ride (I'd suggest Sprint, they've got the speed) and you can't really go wrong with one, just as always make sure you test it for about a week and see how it feels in you hands.

And if you are lucky enough to grab an iPhone when it ships, let me play with it for about and an hour. And if you're looking for someone to take your SIM card model phone off your hands, give me a buzz!

London Calling!

Well, so it seems my 5 year plan has been drastically changed. I won't bore you with the details of how this came about, suffice to say that it includes London (close to anyway). Now what this entails is increasingly difficult, the design is to start in Amsterdam with a tech job (IT, customer service) honestly I don't really care what, as long as it gets me a work visa/permit and pays a livable wage. Then use that as a spring board in order to move to London in 3-6 months (for about a year). But first comes the employment and then all the wonderful paperwork the Royal Netherlands Embassy has to offer. I'll still be damn far from the Daveski, but that particular aspect can't be helped, Amsterdam is quite a stones throw, although not nearly as far as it is now.

So, I submit to you, international blog readers, help find a tech job/get a work visa, if at all possible, and share some feedback on your experiences with his particular topic. This task is a bit more daunting than usual but, I don't think it's too far out of reach!

De La Quim is a small classical project I'm working on. The intent of it is a form of dedication to my favorite part of the female anamomity (yep that one). During the course of this project I seem to have lost all of my source files (midi) but I did export a small scrap from which I shall start anew, I've decided to break it up into single part to more accuately resemble a "suite" below is where I am at the moment: "Andante". I also could not find a suitable place to upload flash audio so there are just a few selections of wall paper I had on my PC at the time....... enjoy!

Well, ladies and gents this is it! There absolutely no more excuses why you shouldn't check out more music.... not anymore.

It has come to my attention recently that our favorite Russian Mob run mp3 site, AllOfMp3.com has released a new function entitled "Music For Masses" and you don't have to enjoy silence any longer.
Music for the masses along with Allofmp3.com has made it easier than I've ever seen to download entire albums in a the second best speed I've encountered, entirely free. There are a number of drawbacks, some larger than others.

Low bitrate (128kbs) or in laymen's terms, slightly higher than FM quality.
These mp3's are static, which mean, no transportation. No iPod, no Cd's.
No scrobbling. (not a big deal for most people)

I see it as yet another way to preview Cd's in relatively decent quality. The transportation makes it fairly in-effective for most people, but with most CD prices on the site clocking in at under 3$ (usd) it's not too much of a jump to buy the disc.

Next comes my quick guide on using this service, but I should first note that AllOfMp3.com has been delcared a pirate site by the RIAA, and recently Visa & Mastercard have discontinued support for them, so, in the US at least, it's considered piracy.

First off head over to AllofMp3.com.
Next, make yourself a login. (sign-up, top right-hand corner, not certain if the email has to be valid but I'll assume so), When it comes to credit card info, click cancel, or go to any other page.
Find something new to download. (I'll suggest Escapology by Robbie Williams)

Click the "select all" box at the bottom then "add tracks to basket"

Now, this next step is important, make certain you click "free mode"

After that click order tracks, then go to my basket and click the download link for each song.

Then you need the Music For Masses Player.

All set? GOOD! Enjoy, and listen to MORE musc!!!

Update: "Music For Masses" does have a cap (which I realized later in the week). It seems to be about 8-10 albums, which if you can find the hack isn't so bad, I'm not certain if the newer version of the "Music For Masses" player, but it's worth a shot.

A quick gush about Pandora(FM)

Well it seems the best music service I've ever used just got a tiny bit better! Pandora has just included a feature called QuickMiX. Which will cycle through the stations you have every song.

And one more feature I've noticed (or maybe you have) is the blog feed, meaning you can add your bookmarked artisits, songs, even stations to a side bar type format.

These cool new feaures coupled with pandoraFM which just entered version 3 this week are start to come along nicely. If you didn't know pandoraFM brings together some Lastfm and Pandora functions together on a single web page, you can even listen to your lastfm stations there.

It's ushering in a new kind of "Music Freedom" that I had no idea was possible. Especially with orb2.0 going live recently, it allows you to stream your music library in a radio type flash player (videos too).

It looks like web 2.0-2.5 is starting to make good on some of those grand promises. :D

Heh, and I used to think Shoutcast was going to be end-all-be-all with internet/streaming radio

Coming Zune to a backpack near you!

Okay, Okay. I've been paying attention to all the buzz the Zune has been getting lately and I thought it was time I tossed my hat in the ring.

First off, I dig the Zune. Especially the brown one (don't ask me why, I just like brown). It's got a nice screen, support a decent amount of formats (WMA, MP3, AAC (formats); photos in JPEG; and videos in WMV, MPEG-4, H.264). And it encompasses Wi-Fi, a brave new world for mainstream players.

But the main thing I'm a bit disappointed with is what I like to call the "BEAM!" feature. With this feature you can send a song (or a collection of them) to a similar unit. That's awesome, but when you do send a song it get wrapped up in a new kind of DRM, "Zune DRM", now I do understand why they want to do this, but at the very same time it violates other license agreements, namely Creative Commons licenses.

And by the very same token I assume that this feature will be proprietary, what I mean by that, is when other device makers say "Hey! That beaming thing is neat, we need that!" It will be incompatible, or be available for a nominal fee.... That's just dumb. That like making a Sony cell phone, that can only call other Sonys!

I like almost every other aspect of it though. I like the potential of Wi-Fi integrated. I like the design, which seems fairly intuitive. I really like the interface, that looks amazing. I really love how it's compatible fully with WMP11, the XBOX360, and presumably the Windows Live Service.

Now, all that said, can it compete with the iPOD?

Well, compete and better are two completely different terms. Is it a better player? Yes! More formats, bigger screen, better interface, wi-fi, an insane number of online storefronts. That makes it a better player.

Is it cooler? Well I think so. But to me, better does mean cooler. But to the hip emo cats that might not be the case. Same for the uptown yuppies. And I seriously doubt the tech deficient soccer mom is going to give up the player/music system she's just become comfortable with. But for the ultra hep cats, the iPOD has become passe because it's just everywhere, they're not elitist anymore, not by a long shot.

And you also have to look at the accessories market. That's something apple has cornered. And might for a while longer. Some people have hundreds invested in their accessories and I can't see them giving those up without a fight. Microsoft (Toshiba) will really need to up the ante on that aspect of it if they even hope to compete.

I think it will all boil down to ease of use. If the Zune is easier to use, and it gets enough buzz, it will become everyone's next player. But when will that be.....

All of that said, I want the Zune to rock the bells. I think apple need a good kick in the ass, they've become complacent in the MP3 player market (rumors aside). I mean, they haven't even added any new formats since the video ipod, and no new music formats since it's inception. And with owning 90% if the market share in the PMP field, there need to be more competition if there's ever going to be innovation.

I know I'm a bit slow off the mark here, but I just recently discovered "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy". Now I had seen the movie knew about the book. But I had no idea about the radio program. (or the comic book, and the show or the video games)

This BBC show is probably one of the funniest thing I've ever heard. The characters are well drawn out and interesting and the story line just grows more improbable by the moment. The earth gets blown up in the second chapter, and it doesn't slow down there.

Now I could go in complete detail about the story line but there are much more competent synopses than I could ever write floating all over the net.

The "acquisition" of Myspace by News Corp. took place in Q1 2006. And It's my congeture that although News Corp. (and especially Fox News in particular) do occasionally seem to have their head up their asses, they are NOT stupid. Rupert Murdoch doesn't seem the type to purchase a company for nearly a billion dollars and let it tank by ostracizing their entire user base. It makes much more sense (in my personal opinion) to continue to use advertising based revenue, because let's face it, selling ads is what Fox does.

In fact I have no IDEA where this story could have come from, even a search of the press releases for the last two months (from Cnet, News Corp. And Myspace itself) has turned up no relevant data. The only thing that could have come close is a story is an entry by Marilyn Z. Carolyn. And she is just a random blogger from the Czetch Republic.

Last.fm site redisign?

It looks like last.fm is about to have a major site change.

This was their page at 7:30 AM (Central time zone). The site was still accepting submissions but all the radio aspects, as well as the user pages were down.

Ala carte, probably my favorite digital music model. Thogh still fundamentally flawed, it the best out there at the moment. The main problem with it right now it that with the embedded DRM there's no way of playing it on an iPod. Urge is a really great one but definitely not the cheapest.

Today I used Napster for the first time since 2001 (history) and so far I'm pretty impressed with the listening aspect of it. Creating a new account is pretty simple (you don't even need a valid e-mail account). And after you make an account you can listen to about 90% of their 2,000,000 song library, in depreciated audio quality (think fm radio ). The other ten percent are 30 second samples.
The biggest drawback I've seen so far is that you can only listen to a track 5 times. After that you have to purchase it for $0.99, and even that's not terrible. Napster is one of the many that use the "Plays For Sure" drm variant being touted by Micro$oft, so you need to make sure your player supports it.The way I see it, the Napster service could be best used to "check out" an entire album without having to purchase or download it. I think they have a viable business model but they still haven't hit that sweet spot that I've been looking for since iTunes dropped.

Speaking of viable business model.... What is Last.fm doing? I've been using their service since April and I'm more confused than ever about how they stay in business. They have to be tearing through bandwidth like wild fire with their radio feature. But the only way I can see they make any coin is with their subscription service but I rarely see users who have it.
For those of you who don't know, Last.fm is an Internet radio station and music recommendation system that merged with sister site Audioscrobbler in August 2005. The system builds a detailed profile of each user's musical taste, showing their favorite artists and songs on a customizable profile webpage, comprising the songs played on its stations selected via a collaborative filter, or optionally, recorded by a last.fm plugin installed into its users' music playing application. And in my personal opinion the most exciting feature is the "tag radio" in which you listen to a radio station consisting artists, tracks or albums labeled with a certain "tag".

Okay, okay, I know I might get a bit of flack for this one but I hate iTunes. I hate it, and the main reason why is because I can't use it. Not because I don't have an iPod but because I just can't and neither can you, here why:

The first and foremost reson is because you don't own the music you pay for (it's in the EULA). You own a lisence to listen to that music. Think about it, you purchase.... let's say "NoFx - Louise" through iTunes, you drop it on your iPod, and listen to it for about a week, and you have a system crash, now if be possible to get that back but it's damn sure not easy. And there also the issue of upgrading your hard drive, one you do, you're kinda screwed. You've purchased all this music with the idea that you own it and one hadware failue and the greneral consumer is out usually 100 bux.

Now I'm not just picking on iTunes, I feel this way about all music wrapped in layer after layer of DRM (URGE included). And the funny thing is most people seem unaware that there are alternatives. With sites like emusic & magnatune it's damn easy to purchase (and own) non DRM-ed music (there's also the option of allofmp3 if you're on a budget, though their legalitys are questionable). Once you purchase something from these site you can easily burn yourself an MP3 cd that will work in a bunch of after-market as well as a few factory car cd players. And it's also easy to archive it.

That's enough from me. I would just reccomend thinking about ways to increse the longevity of your purchases, it's never to difficult re-purchase a Madona CD, but it's not always easy to find a rare Mark Faria track. But if you are gettign coporate sponsored music I suggest pirating it and paying artists like Kolea.

Well, I'm back! I had amazing vacation, a tight scrape with losing my job, and lot and lots of beer. Though the shitty thing is that now that I spent nearly an entire week at the beech and in an awesome town, I might have forced myself to consider moving there, I've already looked at a few apartment listing as well as a few job listings, but that will have to wait for a while. Also, after spending the week rollin' with Joe in his 4 Runner, I think it would be awesome if you lived by the beach to throw a Hawaiian flower vinyl on one of those. Vacation!

Well, For the first time in a long while it's time for a vaction! From 6/12/06 to 6/17/06 my white ass is goning to be in Daytona FL. And I can hardly wait! It's been 2 years since I've been on a real vacation and longer since I've been to the beech. It looks as if the group is going to be Joe, Nancy, James, Sarah, and myself. We'll be renting a house right off the beach for the week. I'm bringing my really shitty digital camera and I'm sure that Nancy will have her's so I'll make sure to upload some.

The lame thing is I know I'm going to feel really disconnected for that week. But I am skype-able so you can hit that up. It'll be routed to my celly so dont' call if I don't know ya.

I figued it was time to pimp something I use daily: Xbox Media Center (or centre for you mispelling brits).

Xbox Media Center is an applicattion for playing nearly every type of media on a modded xbox (360 version should be out in about 2 months). And I do mean nearly every type, Divx, Xvid, Mkv, Mp4, QT, WMV, RAM, 3vix, VP4(&3), Theora, ASF/x, and way too many more to list. It also has full network connectivity, meaning it can use samba shares, and well as xbmsp. Not to mention it accepts third party python scrpits so the possibilites are just about endless.

If you don't have a modded xbox this is reason alone enough to concider modding yours or buying a modded one tho the latter is much more pricey. With "no-solider" chips becoming so
inexpensive that a better option in my opinion, in fact you can buy an X3 chip (no-solder) for a bit over 60$ bux, and that a damn solid chip (as well as an exteremely long sentence)

Xbmc also just recently got a facelift with a skin called MC360 by Team Blackbolt. This skin will give XBMC the look and feel of the 306 gui, with the same "blade" system that make it so easy to navigate. It the first that the hearlds XBMC2.0. The forthcoming version of XBMC is reported to extetend it now impressive feature list.

That's not to say the oniginal skin (PMIII) isn't useful of functional, in fact you'll probbabally find yourself switching between the two.

And there are a slew of XBMC skins out there, though most will not function properly with the new (T3ch) xbmc build. Another great one to check out would be Project Dark Matter.

One of my favorite artists Lori Early is starting to sell some numbered prints, and I'm so damn excited for her but the bad news is that they're going to be right at 200 bux a pop, it's probably worth it but there's no way I can justify paying that for anything except the original. But I thought you'd still like to have a look at some of her work.

Dark stirring and mysterious. I love nearly everything she does. I think my favorite of hers is "The Drought", (bottom right) the emotions it conveys are just surreal.

"Skeet" is actually a form of birth control practiced by the African-American tribes of North America near the beginning of the 21st Centruy. Visionaries of the time (such as Lil Jon and Nelly) recognized the inevitable and everpresent danger of overpopulation in their land and decided to take action. They discovered an ancient form of birth control used by their ancestors that involved "pulling out and shooting" (much like skeet shooting) during sexual intercourse, as to not impregnate the female, or "biatch". Seroiusly, is there any good reason why I have to deal with this? Is there really any point to selling XP to consumers? The box manfuactures allready pay for it (though not nearly the 200$ we hav to pay) so why should it even be sold to consumers? Does anyone else see this?

You buy.... lut's say an E-machine, or a Dell. It comes equipped with XP installed and an OEM disc, right? Okay well it's six months to two years later and you need oh let's say a new mobo, what happens when you go to inall it, you get some damn nag screens. So, you take your savy ass to the "usual places" and pick up a copy, with SP2 o' course because let's face it, we all remember with a pain that was to install manually and we don't want our shiny new insall to be backdoor[ed] (*snicker*) in 2 minuites. But when M$ actually does release an update we need/want we get the above screen.

Now don't get me wrong I like linux, well, I like the concept of linux, but there are a few things I need an XP box for (i.e. Reason3). And I definately understand the need for them to combat piracy (ARG!!!), but there need to be some more options for the power users of the OS with 90% of the maketshare.

Here's my proposal, gimmie a stripped down basic free version of XP that I can DL from the site. I should't have to pirate XP, there should be absolutely no reason for me to, but honestly how many copys of pro are going to move for 200$?

Now I know there now way this is gonna happen with Vista for home useres shipping in January (November for Businesses) but I want to see Vista Ultra Lite for 25$. You can do it Microsoft! You've been making a few jumps lately in the open source field. This could really get some loyalty to the M$ name.

I could go on, but I do need some sleep sometime.

Ohh I so want one! It's a USB giutar that can be interperted directly through MIDI and and can't wait to get my hands on one. I says on the site it's 149.99 and I don't give a damn how cheap it may feel if it does half as much as the roland ready stats I used to play with in high school it's damn with it.

If you know me at all, you know I constantly say .... let's say "spiteful" things about religion, sometimes I take it a little far. In fact, just yesterday I said "You know what we should do? We should pull some of the blood off The Spear Of Destiny and The Shroud Of Turin and make five Jesus clones and have the best basketball team of all time." And someone in the room made quite a face. Later they said I was "bad", and the thing that surprised me was that they said it with some conviction.

That got me wondering: "Why are people so scared when others believe differently?". Now honestly, I think most people who believe in god KNOWS that he/it can't be proven, so why, oh why, would you wave the "2000" year old pamphlet in my face and call it proof?

So I thought about it. And then I thought about it some more. And then I though about it a tiny bit more. For an hour I sat today thinking about it, call it "meditate" if you will. Nothing else, just "Why?". And here's what I came up with (quote me if you will): The concept of GOD or a higher power gives people a certain... light in their life, something to live for, something to live by, and in my personal opinion they would rather be wrong all together than give up that "light"

"Hmmm" I thought, that pretty interesting. "What gives me that feeling of ""light"", that feeling of singularity, the feeling that all living material vibrates at the same frequency. And the answer came to me almost before I had finished the question. (Here's where it's gets really sappy)

I feel that light every time a human being breathes, every time a child wraps it's hand around the finger of it's parent, every time two people hold each other and know that the bond they share is nearly the only thing they will ever need.

So, I choose life. While your religions want to destroy each other for being different I pead with you to celebrate your diversity and try you damndest to see things from more than one angle and for "___"'s sake rembember no one way of life is right nor is one going to be until the diety if your choice appears on CNN and say "Yo!".

And by the way, the Jesus team would kick the globe trotters ass!

I recently read a post by a buddy of mine where he was giving his opinion on abortion, and it kinda hit a nerve. Just so you know, I'll never hold ANYTHING against you for your personal beliefs, unless of course you if you believe in UFO's, no wait, not even then.

But, in case you want to know I believe abortion is your business, and by "your" I mean the chick who's got a bump in her front, and not anyone else's, you do what you feel is right, and don't listen to me or anybody else, and ESPECIALLY don't listen to the old white guys who run our country, they have no idea what it is to be progressive. In my opinion a fetus is not a person until it has self awareness, untill that point it's the same a fish. And we all know how much dan digs prawns. Do like P.E. says and Fight The Power!

Well happy Valentines day everybody. Or as Wes says single's appreciation day. I was going to out tonight but working tonight kinda dashed that to bit. But what I will do is hook ya up with some tunes.

In a few days I'll start my first producing venture! That's right peoples, I'll be producing a few tracks for a local rapper, and to be honest I'm kinda excited, I've never really geeked out on a beat before. I'm also finally plannig on getting a MIDI keyboard. I'd like to get one of those combos (pic below). Also this kinda elevated my status as jack of all trades, and that's always damn cool.

As far a currently goes, I haven't really been up to much. Me, Dave Lucy threw back a couple last night and hit up a restaurant/brewery. She'll prolly be in town until march, so many more of those to come. And as dumb as it sound I really dug the track they played there last night, felt like someone was digging through my CD collection.
Hmmm, what else oh yea! In a few weeks I'll get my "Armed Guard" license so I might get to make around 14$ for sitting on my arse! w00t! Jealous aren't ya? Another cool thing with that is I could do freelance security. I also recently joined the 20th century and got a cell phone, I damn sure didn't want one but my friends, as well as my job were putting a lot of pressure on me. So I kinda had to. :-(. Anyway expect some pictures pretty soon because I'll be getting another digital camera soon. Only 2mp and no LCD but it's only 40bux and I'd end up dropping a nice one.

Didja ever play snes? Sure you did don't lie! If you didn't have one then your buddy's id or you're probably too young to be reading my blog. To your left if probably one of my All-Time favorite snes games and pretty high on my best games ever. It's called "Super Mario RPG". Ever play Final Fantasy? Well, this games is done by the same folks. And it was at the time when Square equaled stellar. At the same time they did this game they were doing FFVI. And that's most rpg gamers 2nd favorite ever! It's a very solid game, great graphics, great music, and wonderful story line. I just love pretty much ever aspect of it
I'm been doing emulation for a very long time (1996) and I guess it's about time I share.

I you don't know an, "emulator" in this case is a program the emulates something else. Like a SNES for instance. So, of course you'll need one of these to play these games or "roms" as the hip kids say, fortunately there one right >here<. Zsnes is pretty much the gold standard of Snes emu. There are better ones, but this is the most popular and the most supported.

I could give you a full tutorial with screen shot and everything. But I don't want to! And besides there's already a shit load of them. But what I will do is give you some games (you're excited now aren't ya?)

Well, in case you didn't know it, mein auto situation is a little up in the air. And so subsequently I've become a huge fan of public transportation AKA da bus. I know what you're thinking, but as of yet I haven't been shot stabbed robbed or raped since I've been riding it. But I thought I had smelled the worst smell ever. Which was feces, body odor, shitty cologne (Tommy Hillfiger) and....(drumroll please)....fruitcake.

Word of action up there is "thought". Because today I got to sit next to a guy who just smelled of shit and dirty arms. And goddamn this fucker stank! I feel fucking infected by it. Like it's gonna crawl up my nose and enter my brain and give me...... Something. I don't what! Just something bad! But all in all for $2.50 I can get anywhere I need to. So that of course does rock the house.

Ugh! Anyway. I'm still working 6 days a week and so my social life had kinda started to crumble. (In a winy voice) "I miss my friends!". But yea. I really do. Sorry guys. I do miss not working though. That was awesome. The money sucked (small wonder) but it was fun. On the plans side of things. I (odviousley) haven't gotten another job yet. Or started on my arcade either. But did finish a concept of part of my sprite.

Just thought I'd say Yo everybody! Not too much to report as of late. I haven't done a, what I refer to as "editorials", (which you can catch here) in a few days. I keep thinking up good topics but I also keep forgetting my handy dandy notebook. I'm doing okay, lately a lot of time to think which in my current state is not too much fun.

I also have plans to finish my arcade here in the next few weeks (concept here). Um, I'm been thinking about creating a M.U.G.E.N. character based on of all the cool characters ME! So that'll take up a good bit of time, might even be fun.

Right now I'm just really trying to find think to keep myself occupied. And that's fairly easy everywhere except work. I've also saved a tiny bit of coin so here in a bit I'll finally get this stupid van fixed and sold. I might get a celly either today or tomorrow. I'm still waiting on word from this other job (Van, if you're reading "Hook it up!") and reeeeeeally hope I get it.

Pretty soon I get to drink my first beer since before Christmas. I know, I know, but I've only been of one day since then, and all I did then was fuckin' sleep! So, yea, needless to say what-ever-the-hell-happens on Thursday. I'm drinking. And more than likely I'm getting pissed drunk!

Thought you might dig this. It's me as a garbage pail kid! Don't remeber them? Well, I'm not suprised. Most people I've talked to never heard of them. But they were awesome! You could buy packs of these gross ass cards. Almost everyone I knew had them when I was in grade school. But, Joe, like with everything at the time (pogs) had more than anybody I knew.There was actually even a movie! Can you imagin that a movie?

Well, I've been working for the last 10 days staright and I have't really had the chance to see any movies yet but I found my 2006.

The Chronicles of Narnia! Quite a few time people have asked me why I read so many fantasy books well, here it is: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe was the first book I ever read. That's right, the first! And it was also the one of the first movies I remember seeing and really having an affinity for. If you haven't seen the cartoon yet, DON'T! It's absolute shit! I re-watched it about 2 years ago and I was so disappoitned! I kept thinking, "This is what I loved?!?" It's not the worst movie I've seen in the last few years but It's close!

The sheer imagery alone is enight to see this in my opinion. It's at least on par with LOTR. Plus if you've actually read the books it's damn close to the original. The graphics are just phenomial, it really gives cedit to disney when they need it so much. They haven't really delivered on this scale sice "Pirates of the Carriben"

There are a few elemnts of the film I could do without, I'm not a fan of all the religious dogma assoiated with it. Asland supposed to be jesus thing kinda irks me. As well as the whole "You don't have christmas?" lines. And I am fuckin' sick of Liam Neeson. Does this asshole have to be in everything?!?!?

But those things ecluded, this move is perfect. There nothing else I would change and those aren't really even the fault of the director becuse the doma was part of the original story.

All the pictures I've posted are from my version of the movie. I'm loving have actual screener versions of movies that are in theatres. I know I have't screener at the bay in forever! I even have a great version of Syriana as well. It's sooo damn nice haveing a movie in near-DVD quality while it's still in the theatre! So big-ups to who ever is ripping off this flicks!

Well, I've finished part of my mugen endeavor (the easy part), the stages! And along with the stages are the tracks to go behind them. Since I was sharing it w/ the mugen community I figured I'd share the tunes with you guys.

If you didn't know before M.U.G.E.N. (wiki) is a customizable two dimsional fighting engine. First developed in 2000 (I believe) by a company call elecbyte. Well, after a while elecbyte just disappeared, on minute it was saying"everything is cool" the next they're gone and didn't say why.

I miss them :-( and so do most of the people who just love mugen. But one good thing came out of they're leaving: The fanatics! See, with mugen dissolved the people who loved this engine took matter into their own hands and start making characters, screempacks, and stages like fuckin' gangbusters!

The scene saw amazing characters such as "Evil Ryu", "Dragon Claw" and "Evil Ken" (Capcom even took and interest in him). And what this engine did was put them all together. Imagine a VS match between say........ "Sub-Zero" and "M. Bison", you could totally do that!

See that's the reason I love mugen so much, you're only obstacle is you imagination, and me personally, I think that's where gaming is going anyway. Take the xbox 360, for instance, that's the whole motto, "Make it you own" or something like that. It just seems that FINALLY the big game guys are starting to understand, if I pay for a game, I want to be able to play the game, as well as play with the game! Shouldn't they have understood that by now? They should have noticed at the very least by when the Sims games came out! Because in essence that was the first time "skinning" really came into it's own, well, really with quake, but Sims took it to new levels.

Anyway, if you didn't know it, I like games, and I apparently could rant about them all day, when I have all my mugen stuff up I'll post some more links so you can really get to play it, or you could just go here and DL it yourself and then go here and pick up some characters and then here and get some stages.

I hate my job!

Oh, godamn do I hate my fucking job! I get paid to do nothing! Now to some people that sounds good. "Oh shit! Look at you with this easy job" Fuck that, I don't mind being idle, but I have to stay idle, no reading, no sitting, (they took took away from me tonight), not a fucking thing. I have to do nothing. Fuck! At least at the arcade I can read, play my lappy, watch tv (if I bring in my tv). And the thing that REALLY pissed me off is they made me come in Sunday night, after just working new years eve, they called me about 10 at night and told me to come in, not for the day, they had changed my fucking schedule and hadn't told me about it until 2 hours before shift. I understand if they wanted me somewhere different or on a different night, but at least give me a day notice! If anybody know where they need someone who can solder, read circuit diagrams, know a tiny bit of BP, knows XP like the back of my hand, know a few flavors of Linux, can be a network admin, and is an all-around decent guy, give me a buzz. I'm fucking miserable here!
